1. Think: fat is good! Healthy fats that is and they do aid in weight loss. This article outlines five reasons why fat is helpful with weight loss. Fat helps you feel full for longer, similar to the effects of fiber, and it helps control blood sugar. Stable blood sugar levels help keep cravings at bay. Fat helps absorb those fat-soluble nutrients: vitamin A, D, E, and K. Nutrition is a combination of carbohydrate, protein, and fat. Healthy fats have their place at the table. Essential omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids are important for brain and heart health. Plus, fat is delicious! Healthy fats create creamy textures and sometimes a nice crunch.

2. How often do you check the nutrition facts label? A new study suggests that consumers make healthier choices with simpler nutrition labels. The Nuval system summarizes the nutrition information of a product and gives it a score from 1-100. The higher the score, the better the nutrition content. The study states that the Nuval system improved consumers healthy choices by 20%. Personally, I enjoy looking at the nutrition facts label and making educated decisions on what I feel is a healthful product. But, if this system helps others than I’m all for it! What do you think?

3. Let’s go back in time and think about being excited to eat lunchables as a kid. Well why not take that idea and replicate that for an adult lunch?! Pack a finger food from each food group and you’ve got a balance, satisfying lunch. For protein think lunch meats, shrimp, eggs, tofu, or cottage cheese. Healthy fats could be avocado, cheese, hummus, nut butter, or nuts. Plus, some treats such as crackers, pretzels, yogurt, or dark chocolate fit in just fine. Most fruits and veggies are lunchable friendly so throw a couple of those in too. Delish!
